I had someone ask about how we came up with the name Fidalgo Bay Coffee…
Fidalgo Bay Coffee started out in 1992 as Fidalgo Bay Roasting Company. Our founders Gary and Sandy Sawyer purchased a small town candy shop called “Sweet and Sassy” converting it into a coffee and dessert venue that also roasted and sold fresh coffee. To highlight the localness of the business, Fidalgo Bay was chosen due to a local bay called, what else “Fidalgo Bay”. Anacortes, the location of our first store is on Fidalgo Island. Roasting Company was an obvious choice until people who had never heard of us began to ask, “Now what do you roast? Chicken?” We even had someone setup a website in an attempt to get our design business advertising our superb fresh roasted chicken. That combined with the mouthful of saying “roasting company” convinced us to clarify what our core business was about, Coffee. Of course, we want people to know that we do roast the coffee ourselves, but it is even more important for them to know first what we roast.
That’s our story, I just wish I saved a copy of the chicken website. It was taken down quickly.

Great entries David! I love the story about the chicken roasters! Keep it up, it would be fun to hear more stories about where your coffee comes from and such.

What I want to know is…
WHY isn’t your coffee distributed to more store outlets? My wife and I discovered your coffee late one night at the Donut House and fell in love with it immediately. I’ve had coffee from around the world and yours is one of the finest. I bought it once at QFC and now they don’t carry it anymore. They carry a lot of crap coffee, like Newman’s and Dunkin’ Donuts, but not yours, which is a shame. You really need to be more available to the coffee drinking community! You have the BEST!

Our coffee is primarily sold through specialty outlets including PCC Natural foods, many espresso locations and restaurants throughout the Northwest. We did make an effort to distribute through QFC, however, that method of distribution doesn’t deliver the freshest coffee. We love to connect to our customers and partner with companies that feel the same way. Sorry for the inconvenience. We are offering cheap (and free for over $30 order) shipping on our website so that it is easy to get great coffee delivered right to your door.

My husband has to drink decafe which I normally find gross. We had some at the Calico Cupboard restaurant and I ,as always had to taste it for him first to make sure it was REALLY decafe . BOY,was I surprised at how good it was. We asked the waitress what the brand was and then talked her into selling us a bag. It is now OUR coffee. THANK YOU!!!!
