PCC Natural Markets Introduces Fidalgo Bay Coffee

Nature’s Crest Organic Coffees debut at PCC Natural Markets on September 3rd

BURLINGTON, WASHINGTON; SEPTEMBER 2, 2008 – When the doors open to PCC’s 9th and newest market in Edmonds, Washington, Puget Sound coffee lovers will finally have access to Fidalgo Bay’s specialty coffee for use at home. Fidalgo Bay Coffee has long combined the art and science of gourmet roasting with its rich tradition of independent coffee roasting in the Northwest. Now, PCC customers can rejuvenate their day with the flavor of our small-batch, craft-roasted collection of Nature’s Crest organic coffees.

Nature’s Crest fair trade certified coffee is shade grown, using sustainable farming practices. Fidalgo Bay uses only high-altitude, organically grown coffees. Beans are allowed to ripen slowly under a canopy of shade trees, which provide a natural habitat for animals and migratory birds. No chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used. Each harvest is hand-picked and sun-dried in the open air to preserve the natural character and earthy flavors of these special coffees. Even the pulp residue produced during the drying and milling process is composted and recycled into organic fertilizer for future plantings. This is a costly process. That’s why we pay a premium to farmers who are dedicated to preserving high quality, socially responsible farming traditions. It’s a commitment you’ll savor with every cup.

This excellent quality coffee has been Fair Trade Certified by TransFair USA, an independent non-profit organization which monitors and certifies Fair Trade products in the United States. Fair Trade raises incomes and living standards for small coffee farmers overseas while helping to protect the environment. Learn more at www.fairtradecertified.com

just a bay away

Over the past year, we have been developing what “just a Bay away” means to us at Fidalgo Bay Coffee.  Part of this process involved making some videos.  Over the next few weeks I will be posting some videos.  Please check them out and make comments.  They are all under 2 minutes.  Please check out the first one below.  Its title is “Adventure”

Staff Coffee Coupons

Every two weeks, everyone that works at Fidalgo Bay Coffee gets a coffee coupon in his or her paycheck envelope. The coupon is transferable to friends and family. I redeemed mine last week for a bag of Seacoast Blend with the intention of giving it to my uncle. My Uncle Bobby has been bugging me to give him some free coffee. He’s retired and tries to milk it for all he can while he hangs out down at the marina in Edmonds on his “fishing” boat Seabird. So I gave him my bag of Seacoast Blend. He called me up Sunday to say that it was the best coffee he’s ever had. His thing is for very dark roasted coffee. So if you’re into the dark roast–go for Seacoast it’s Seabird approved.

Wendy is terrific. And is quite possibly the best barista in the Marysville area. She is a classic hands on owner/operator going out meeting the customers and helping her baristas pull shots and steam milk. We have a new web site built by the ping pong playing dudes at PWG Design. Every time that I called over there I heard this noise that sounded like Forest Gump playing in a ping pong match. I said, “so that’s what you guys do all day over there when you should be building the Fidalgo Bay Coffee web site?” And they said back, “all you guys do all day is drink coffee.” Touché.

Well I guess they need special stress relief for dealing with over caffeinated clients. And they did a terrific job with the design. I pulled out my American Expresso card and ordered up a 12-oz bag of Nature’s Crest French Roast. It was a very good online shopping experience. I think it was a total of about 4 clicks and filling in my credit card through the check out. Then an email came right away from our office confirming the transaction.
