What supports these cornerstones? Our employees and the farmers who grow our coffee.<h4>supporting our employees</h4>We seek to create a personal bond between our employees and each one of our customers. These bonds provide a foundation for long and fruitful business relationships. Taking good care of our own employees is the first part of this process. Some of the benefits of working at Fidalgo Bay Coffee: Medical Insurance Coverage. Healthy people make healthy employees. That’s why each full-time member of our staff and their dependents are eligible for a comprehensive insurance plan. Matching IRA Contributions. Every day, our staff contributes to the future of Fidalgo Bay Coffee. We recognize this investment and aim to return the favor. Any employee who opens an IRA account through our program receives a matching contribution of up to 3 percent of their annual salary. Employee discount. Our staff is made up of coffee lovers who love our coffee, so we send each employee home with a pound of free coffee per paycheck. Any coffee they’d like beyond that is available at a 50 percent discount. It’s one of the most popular “perks” at Fidalgo Bay. Vacation. At Fidalgo Bay Coffee, we understand the importance of family and the value of time spend away from the office. As an employee’s years of service grow, so does their balance of paid vacation. <h4>supporting farmers</h4>We see supporting coffee growers in the same light as supporting our employees. It’s our responsibility to make sure they’re taken care of—that they’re fairly compensated for their work and product. Some of the things we do to support those who grow our coffee include: A significant portion of our coffee is certified <a href="http://www.transfairusa.org/">Fair Trade</a>. For the non-certified Fair Trade coffee we purchase, we support small coffee farms and pay well above the world market average price per pound for Arabica beans.We use only high-altitude-grown coffee. Even though it’s more expensive, it’s more sustainable, and we take pride in supporting the farmers who practice this farming method.We visit coffee farms annually to establish direct relationships with growers. We’ve enjoyed a working partnership with the <a href="http://www.jungle-tech.com/">farmers</a> in San Martin, Peru since 2000. <h2>A COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY</h2>Since our founding in 1992, we’ve aimed to be a good corporate citizen in our local community. Whenever our trucks deliver coffee, we offer to pick up used coffee grounds for composting. And we even provide compostable bags to make storage and pickup more convenient.
